By Shea KiBurn out. Toxic bosses. Unreasonably heavy workloads. Jobs that don't turn out to be what you thought when you started them. Are these situations showing up in your career journey again and again? It doesn't have to be that way. Did you see these top video posts from 2022? Thank you for following me on Instagram. I appreciate all the likes, comments, and great questions you ask!It is time to approach your career development in a new way that gets more satisfying results. I'll be sharing in this post some of my favorite holistic resources for attracting positive career momentum, but first I want to share a story with you. It starts with this: You might be wondering, "What is that pic about, Shea?" It's the final missing piece! To a bookcase I ordered about two months ago for my home office (or my fun room as many of you know I call it). When I ordered the bookcase, I was SO excited. I could picture how amazing it would look in a particular spot in the fun room. I could feel the sense of order, creativity, and satisfaction this furniture would bring to where I help others with career development. It's kind of embarrassing, but once I had the vision in my mind, I wanted it NOW. The one week estimated for it's delivery felt SO LONG. I had no idea the journey to get the bookcase would take way longer than I desired and much more than one week. The company didn't send all the right pieces repeatedly. It took months going back and forth with them to get each needed piece. I let my frustration and impatience get the best of me in this situation. It didn't cross my mind even once to do any energy work or reflection on what this situation was trying to show me-- until the third time a box arrived without everything needed to build the bookcase AGAIN. Finally, I made room in my day to go inward. I sometimes forget to do this even though it is a part of what I coach others about. It was past time for me to do some energy work, instead of continuing to look at what was right in front of me (or checking my mailbox!) and getting worked up in a negative way about it. What Was Stuck In My "Vibrational Craw" As Abraham-Hicks Often Says?I remembered I didn't need to know that answer. It was enough that I noticed the connection my inner world was having on what I was seeing on the outside and around me. Pausing and noticing without judgment is a first step of being able to transform a dissatisfying situation. Despite having a long list of things I "needed" to get done for my kids, the holidays, work, elders we are taking of, etc., I stopped all of it to do several techniques of energy work. I set my timer for 15 minutes. The first minute of being still was as usual (for me) the hardest. But once I got through that resistance and the initial discomfort of slowing down and focusing inward, it got easier. I let some negative energy rise up that I'd been holding onto. I offered myself Reiki with crystals, deep breathing exercises, and a mindfulness practice. I could sense inner positive shifts taking place. When my timer went off, I knew I felt different and lighter than when I started --from the inside out. And I didn't give the frustrating situation another thought. That is another tricky thing to do in the middle of an undesirable experience. But I committed that when the subject and feelings of being annoyed, disappointed, or other lower vibration about the bookcase popped up in my mind, I would switch it to a subject that would instead give me joy. Within 48 hours, the final necessary piece to the bookcase showed up in my mailbox. (And by the way, I wasn't the one who checked the mailbox that time!) I wanted to share this story here and see what pieces of it resonate with you. Often there are manifestations we are waiting for, especially in regards to our work situation, that feel like they are taking way too long. Even when we have access to all the energy work tools that can help us more easily navigate stressful parts of our career journey, we can be resistant to using them. I challenge you to take 10 minutes of time to explore at least two or three of the resources listed below. Yes, I know there are likely a dozen or so other responsibilities and temptations that are calling for your attention. Letting our guard down, opening our mind up more, and setting aside time to explore what might lead to change, even if it is a positive change, isn't easy work. But by doing these things together and sharing about the ups and downs with one another, it can be easier. Holistic Resources To Help You Attract Positive Career MomentumBelow are several books, podcasts, and courses that crossed my path at some point this past year and made my heart do inner cartwheels. Each one gives me hope that doing work that fits, with people that lift us up, and while being paid well isn't just possible---it may actually have a chance at becoming the norm. (Whatever "normal" means, right?) Books YouMap by Kristin A. Sherry Reinvention Roadmap by Liz Ryan Your Unstoppable Greatness by Lisa Orbé-Austin and Richard Orbé-Austin Most people I coach receive a copy of one of the above books at no extra cost. That's how much I believe they are transforming and essential books to improve our career journeys. Podcasts The Holistic Career Change Podcast by Vilma Usaite Bridge To Career Fulfillment by Blake Schofield Decision Masters Podcast by Kirsten Parker Manifest It Now by Ginnie Gane and Cassie Parks Chill And Prosper by Denise Duffield-Thomas We Can Do Hard Things by Glennon Doyle (and Abby Wambach) I spend a lot of time in my car for family errands and driving to my kids's schools. I listen to these podcasts so often that my tween lately has been requesting to "play that one about making money the easiest, happiest way" or "can we listen to the one where they tell so many funny stories?" I wish I had heard the content and messages of these amazing women at her age. But I am so grateful to be receiving their lessons learned now, too. Courses Storytelling For Job Interviews by Sarah Elkins Careergasm Crash Course by Sarah Vermunt 5 Day Upgrade My Interview Adventure by Shea Ki A holistic approach that includes addressing our mind, body, and spirit helps quickly reduce the stress and overwhelm that career changes, layoffs, or other professional challenges can bring.
