By Shea KiI used to think I was struggling with gaining satisfying career momentum because I didn't know how to dream big. Some can see their dreams ahead and describe them vividly, but for me it was always challenging to imagine the specifics of my future. So I took a deep dive for several years into learning a ton about positive psychology, neuroscience, manifesting, the law of attraction, guided visualization, meditation, and a bunch of other personal and professional development strategies. I finally have the dreaming big part down. From all the trainings, certifications, and teachings from top leaders in human potential, coaching, communications, and leadership, I can now see in full color every energizing detail of what I deeply desire for my career future. It was a big step for me to allow myself to learn how to make time and space to dream the big dreams. That was something I couldn't give myself permission to do before, mostly because of different traumas, life experiences, and ways I was raised. But what I also uncovered while I learned to dream big was not what I expected to find. It wasn't even on my radar as clearly as it is now. It was obvious my quest would lead me to discover a treasure box of tools that are helpful for career clarity and confidence. I knew I would infuse that information into my coaching with other women who want to get better at being interviewed or talking about their professional value. But what else I unearthed is something more game-changing. To create the amazing, meaningful changes in my career that I crave, I realized I need to learn something more powerful than being able to dream big. My next step is here and it is even more intense and scary to undertake. ⬇️ WATCH THIS MONTH'S VLOG ⬇️The next level of inner work that I now need to learn how to do involves me BELIEVING BIG. I can do this easily for others who want to make an impact on the world of work, but I often hesitate giving myself the same steady faith about my own career dreams. Even as Upgrade My Interview™ and Shea Ki Coaching, LLC expands and has a year coming up in 2022 like no other (with more service offerings, online events, and new collaborations), believing that more of my career goals are possible does not come naturally. There is a gremlin in me full of negativity and doubt who some days wins my full attention. When a new opportunity comes up for me to share my message with higher visibility and invite others into benefiting from what I offer, that tiny but mighty destructive creature inside my head has a field day if I let it. Sometimes the pesky, toxic creature inside my mind is dressed up as imposter syndrome. Other times it is wearing the alluring, distracting jewels of procrastination, comparison-itis, self-sabotage, or other disillusioning traps to "protect" me from change, rejection, or failure. ![]() It is why I spend a lot of time helping others I coach identify and learn new strategies to break the hypnotic trance of their inner gremlin before they sit in the hot seat. I know it is essential inner work necessary so they can fully believe in themselves, especially when the stakes are high. And now, as my business gains growth and my own gremlin gets more triggered, I will need to try out new ways that build up my muscle to believe bigger. It isn't work one does successfully alone. I am grateful to have a supportive network of mentors, coaches, family, and friends to help me feed my faith more than my gremlin. I also want to share a thank you to George Mason University, my alma mater two times over, for being part of my inspiration to learn how to believe big. I got super fired up and more clear on my mission being successful in bigger ways when I recently saw a video shared by #MasonNation. When I heard what our women's basketball coach, Vanessa Blair-Lewis, shares with her GMU team about the team's future, it struck a chord in me. Does what she says in the video also resonate with you?
