I used to force myself to fit and stay in work situations that I had outgrown.
I wouldn’t make myself squeeze like that into a pair of jeans that are too small, as with clothes I make sure they fit and feel good.
So why didn’t I give myself this same consideration when it came to where I worked, who I was working with, and how much I was (or wasn't) being valued?
I now know why I stayed stuck in work situations that didn't fit and feel good anymore.
I had not been taught how to prepare, attract, and transition into a better opportunity in a way that didn't seem exhausting, time-consuming, and full of other struggles.
Most of all, the thought of having to go to interviews turned my stomach into knots. It wasn’t usually a topic my friends were sharing about. I didn't find it the usual conversation to starting sharing about how overwhelming it is start putting ourselves "out there" again. It can be so hard to admit when we notice we are holding ourselves back from better career opportunities.
Even if the change is so very necessary.
We give up so much when we keep choosing to stay stuck in what we know, especially if it is making us feel small, disempowered, frustrated, or other negativity.
It often leads us to experience worse health. Disconnected relationships. Less income potential. A lack of satisfying growth.
On the outside we might look like we're doing alright, even well to some.
But inside it feels like an everyday, gnawing-at-our-soul struggle. It is so damn exhausting.
I know this because I lived that hell.
And I want this madness to stop so others don't have to keep learning the excruciatingly hard way like I did.
It's a big reason I started the Shine In The Hot Seat Show. I hope to be part of the solution by offering women the holistic tools, strategies, and resources needed to upgrade their interview skills and create enjoyable career momentum.
There is no such thing as work-life balance, especially after the past few years that have been unlike any others the world has experienced. But we can each take steps to stop shrinking and start expanding towards a more satisfying, conscious and intentional work-life blend.
I hope these first three episodes of Shine In The Hot Seat bring you some career inspiration and actionable guidance to begin this shift for yourself. My amazing guests and I discuss how to boost your mindset, body language, and energy for interviews and other big opportunities.
